Technical Session C: Partnership & Progress: Designing the Lowcountry Rapid Transit System
The Berkeley-Charleston-Dorchester Council of Governments (BCDCOG) and South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) completed the design this year for the Lowcountry Rapid Transit (LCRT) Project, the state’s first bus rapid transit system. Spanning 21.3 miles across Charleston County, primarily along urban arterial roadways with high ADTs, LCRT will transform regional mobility by providing a reliable transit connection. This session will provide an update on the final design, highlighting roadway improvements and construction methodologies needed to support the service as the project advances toward federal funding and construction. The session will also showcase the unique partnership between BCDCOG, as project sponsor and operator, and SCDOT, as designer and roadway authority, and how that collaboration is helping deliver this transformative investment.
