Technical Session C: Keeping an Eye on Growth

Florida’s rapid population and employment growth are exceeding projections, creating significant challenges for transportation systems and community planning. “ Keeping an Eye on Growth” explores how the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is responding to these pressures by developing and applying innovative tools to monitor trends, anticipate demand, and guide investment decisions. With congestion relief as a central priority, the session highlights how data-driven approaches support strategic capacity improvements that enhance quality of life, sustain the tourism economy, and strengthen supply chain reliability. Presenters from FDOT leadership will share practical examples of district-level tools used to track growth patterns and identify emerging needs across the state. The session also examines how these tools provide valuable information for important conversations with local governments responsible for growth management, transportation priorities, and community engagement. Attendees will gain insight into scalable strategies for managing growth in fast-growing states and improving long-term transportation system performance.
