Tim Smith earned his bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Florida State University in 2001 and spent ten years in the private sector before joining FDOT in 2009. He has served as District Utility & Specifications Engineer, District Consultant Project Management Engineer, Interim Operations Engineer, and Interim Construction Engineer. In 2015, he became Intermodal Systems Development Administrator, later becoming Director of Transportation Development in 2020 and serving as Interim Director of the Office of Work Program and Budget. He was appointed District 3 Secretary on July 8, 2025. Outside of work, Tim enjoys family time and the outdoors.
