State DOTs and other partners along major transportation corridors have been collaborating and sharing information for the past few decades, recognizing the increasing amount of personal and freight travel that occurs across jurisdictional boundaries. During the past few years, advances in technology and data, and the increasing recognition of shared interests in enhancing safety, mobility, emergency response, and economic development have led to a rapid acceleration in the size, scope, and scale of these corridor initiatives. Fueled by advances in digital infrastructure and data, and facilitated through leadership from organizations such as USDOT, TRB, AASHTO, and ITS America, multiple states are now advancing technology deployment, data sharing, and real-time situational awareness and operations along corridors.
This session will describe the status of these connected corridors in the Southeast. The panelists will address key activities underway in Florida, Georgia, and Texas as well as multistate collaboration through the Eastern Transportation Coalition and AASHTO. State DOT leaders, those who are actively engaged in these initiatives, will share their current capabilities, key successes and challenges, and future plans. The discussion will illustrate how these coalitions provide a foundation for enhancing safety, reliability, supply chain efficiency, and emergency response on many of the region’s most pivotal corridors- and how these efforts could accelerate and further converge as part of the next federal transportation authorization bill.
